University of Virginia

The University of Virginia is distinctive among institutions of higher education. Founded by Thomas Jefferson in 1819, the University sustains the ideal of developing, through education, leaders who are well prepared to help shape the future of the nation. The University of Virginia is made up of ten schools in Charlottesville, plus the College at Wise in southwest Virginia. U.Va. offers 51 bachelor's degrees in 47 fields, 83 master's degrees in 66 fields, six educational specialist degrees, two first-professional degrees (law and medicine), and 59 doctoral degrees in 58 fields. COMMUNITY COLLEGES

Germanna Community College

With a total enrollment of more than 5,000 students, GCC serves the northern part of the region from its Locust Grove Campus in Orange County. In the process of fulfilling its mission of providing post secondary education and supporting area employers to meet community needs, the college has recently completed the Germanna Center for Advanced Technology in Culpeper.

Piedmont Virginia Community College

PVCC has a total annual enrollment of approximately 7,000 students taking degree and non-degree courses. The community college works closely with area businesses through such programs as the Business Education Roundtables (BERTs) to identify needed skill sets and then to design the training programs that will meet specific operational requirements. State Farm, Sperry Marine and SNL Financial are among the companies that have partnered with PVCC.

CONTINUING EDUCATION AND VOCATIONAL PROGRAMS

VA SCHOOL OF CONTINUING AND PROFESSIONAL STUDIES

Today, almost 15,000 adults annually expand their horizons through degree, professional development personal enrichment, and travel programs offered through the University of Virginia's School of Continuing and Professional Studies (SCPS). With a network of seven academic centers throughout the commonwealth, the School serves adult students, school districts, federal and local government agencies, and the business community.
